What exactly does he want? Is he wanting to play the video as a dvd movie on his home player or PC? If he only wants to use the file on his PC then he just will buen it to the disk and open it via windows explorer or a software package that plays avi's.

To make it into a DVD Movie you need software that can convert the AVI to a format that the DVD will use as a movie. It can be done. I am just not familiar with the software. I have ripped dvd's to MPEG files to run bits and pieces on my PC.

NERO can do it just fine

just make sure you get the MPEG-2 encoder plug in

when you choose to burn DVD video, it'll automatically compile the AVI into DVD video so it can be played on any DVD machine

just choose "Video CD" or "Super Video CD" or "Video DVD"

The Problem with NERO is that it won't maintian the aspect ratio, with an SVCD you'll get 400x400 even if your .avi is 800x600

I learned this after two hours of waiting... it was very annoying to say the least.

Yes, you can make *.avi files into DVD files, regardless of the resolution that the *.avi file was saved as. Obviously if the capture quality is better the final DVD format MPEG2 will be better. Garbage in, garbage out as the saying goes.

For example, if you were to capture a *.avi file at 720x480 and then convert it to a MPEG2 (DVD) that would be best.

If you were to capture a *.avi at 320x240 and convert it to MGEG2 it would look pretty crappy.

Using Nero and making a SVCD will force the resolution to 480x480, regardless of the starting file's resolution. Using Nero to make a VCD will cause the resolution to go to 352x240. Using Nero to make a DVD will force the resolution to be 720x480.
