    disc read error on boot

    I have a win2k machine, P4, 80gb drive and Enermax power supply.
The machine will display 'disk read error', sometimes with a code of 000120, on boot. This will happen 5-6 times and then it boots OK or says some files are missing for win2k. It always eventually boots though even if 20 reboots are needed.
I have scanned the discs and used the Western Digital tools and there are no problems, Nor are there memory problems.
    any clues??

    Welcome to SysOpt!

What is giving you this error - BIOS or Windows? If it's BIOS, try clearing CMOS on the motherboard and check cabling and pin condition.

WD and IBM drives have specific jumpering for lone master and master with slave. Use the master jumper only if the drive shares the cable with a slave. Otherwise, remove the jumper.
