    Looks like a fun project.

Anybody ever build one of these things? I have an old hospital air ionizer that still works. I wonder if the high voltage PSU in it would power a small lifter? Any ideas how to convert it for this use?Click here.

****, that looks cool, but I'm not sure how to make it work,, thanks for the link though. Who knows, a bit of reading and I might have ideas.

Doesn't have anything to do with "Shirt Lifters" does it?

That was a very interesting read. Thanks!

It would be more impressive if they could get enough "lift" to have it carry its own power source. It is not a very practical flying device, when it has to be tethered by the power (HV) lines.

Some safety concerns with building/operating such a device:
    1) These are large, exposed High Voltage capacitors. All the devices on that site are running at 20,000 Volts or more! That is some serious "zap" potential floating around!

    2) You should ensure your "lifter" does not fly near any person or grounded point. (Like an electrical fixture) zapp lol

    3) Most High Voltage devices emit X-rays...
I understand these lifters emit only small amounts of X-rays, but prolonged exposure to any X-ray source is probably not a good idea for you. (Or your future children) Cumulative exposure is as important as the amount of exposure at any given moment. (If not more)

This project is an excellent proof of this propulsion concept! Matbe this will be a propulsion system for future spacecraft?
    ET here we come!
Thanks again for the interesting read.
    Regards

BTW: You can find small HV power supplies in old copiers (made for corona/grid drive)...they should be suitable if you were inclined to build a "lifter" of your very own.

Actually, I was thinking more along the lines of flying it around and zapping cats.

Uke... You want me to nip over & give you a hand?

You know how good I am with hardware

Maybe I could fly it home

    Probably not soon enough.
I certainly could use a willing test pilot though.

I found a link that has instructions for using a old monitor for a high voltage power supply. I have a couple of those laying waiting around to power a UFO.

The PDF on this page shows how.

Here is a link for a windows program to simulate the flight charactoristics.
