    Video card upgrade...But which??

It will sit on a BX440 base mobo (agp x2) with a PIII 550 ,running 98SE and it will replace a 3dfx 2000 16MB PCI.
Since this is an old system by today's standarts I don't want to overkill paying for features that I can't use, but on the other hand maybe I should thinking for when it's time to say goodbye to this Mobo + PIII. May be a Radeon 9000 will do fine what do you think?? Thanks

9000 isnt any better thanan 8500, so get that isntead, but really you could pick up a cheap gfmx2 and it would get you a nice performance boost

For basic use go with the Geforce 2 MX (since you only have 2x agp *you sure its not 4x?* sounds a lil wierd for 550mhz)

Geforce 2 TI if your system can handle it ... MX cards are for basic use and you can possibly find one on e-bay for $20 maybe less (MX cards)

Edit: if your mobo has 2x agp I think the Radeon 9000 might be a lil overkill

Do you play games? If not the voodoo3 2000 is more than fast enough. I play RTCW with a voodoo3 3000 at 16bit & its great, this is with a BX mobo & celeron 533.

    i440BX boards are AGP 2x. I have a Asus P2B-F i440BX board with a PIII 750, and I gained a sizeable performance boost going from a geforce 256 32mb sdram to geforce3 ti200 64mb. So, the Radeon 9000 may be just fine.

Don't go for the geforce mx cards. My geforce 256 got a higher score than a geforce2 mx200. A better bet would be a geforce2 gts, which you can get for $40 shipped.

Yeap! I'm pretty sure about the AGP been only X2. This machine is a Gateway with one of those weird mobos, "Jabil BX R3"... go and figure that one.................I've never deal with one of them before.

I also agree. Ive ran games like Return to castle wolfenstein, medal of honor allied assult, warcraft 3 and Dark Age of Camelot on high detail with a gf2 mx 400. The gf2 mx series are quite exceptional.
