When you boot the machine, it will 'find' the cpu, count the ram and drives, ect. You may not be seeing this on your screen due to the machine booting too fast. Try this...when you turn the machine on, wait a few seconds..(maybe 3 or 4) and hit the pause key on your keyboard..this will stop the boot process and you can then see the screen when your monitor warms up. Look at the cpu the CMOS found..it should be identified correctly as AMD XP whatever.
If CMOS is correctly ID'ing your processor, then Windows is the problem.
Go to the following URL, download and install/run AIDA32 v3.20.
http://www.aida32.hu/aida32.php
This will detect and tell you anything you can possibly want or need about your system.

just flashed bios
says I have a Duron im looking at the box its says athlon xp 1800.I think it might be that this cards default is a 200 mhz bus until you change it to a 266 or 333mhz. That might be why it is listed as a Duron. This chip is now overclocked running at 1.7ghz no Duron runs at that. It wasn't overclocked before and it was still listed as a Duron like now. Thx for the help ps bios flash didn't change a thing.

New BIOS may "recognise" the cpu for what it is. I needed a flash on my mobo to correctly identify the new TBred-Bs... just so I could see "XP2700+" on the POST screen instead of just the speed in mHz.
