    Geforce 2 or 3 ??

Hey I have a geforce 2 64MB card. I'm going to get two so called cheap units built this year. I and my 2 boys play some games, So I want to get a video card that can hang. Now I seen they have Geforce 2 cards with 128MB for $47, They have Geforce 3 128MB for $94. and yes they have that Gforce 4 128MB for $150+. I don't want to spend alot. But was wondering what is the differents in the 2 and 3 cards. is it alot. ( no not the price differents I see that coming) Thanks

The ge3 cards have pixel and vertex shaders and do bumpmapping.

    Get a Geforce 3 ti200, or a Geforce 4 ti4200 64mb if you have $120 for it.

If you're willing to go Ati, Radeon 8500's are geforce 3 ti500 level cards for $70.
This is where my signature would go if I wasn't so lazy.

Agree with everyone. But for your info

Your g2 will score about 3000 benchmarks

the g3 will score about 6000 benchmarks

and the g4 (ti4200) will score a minimum of 9000

all rough depending on your other system components, say with a processor over 1ghz for example.

So if you like good looking games, the higher up you go the better the performance.

1.4ghz Tbird, PC133 SDRAM will onyl just scrape 9000 if you overclock the gfx card in addition

Same here but for 512 of PC133 on an SDR only mobo (heavily tweaked though) with overclocking i can rack up about 9200+

11,809 3dmarks on a P4 2.4gig Northy B model2 512 pc2700 rdram and asus p4pe mobo. With a ti4200 G4. Not too bad. thats the rig I built my buddy before x-mas. Anyhow thats all stock speed no oclocks on anyhting. Since its a Abit OTIS G4 Ti4200 it came with a oclocking utility, but he's a newby. I didnt install it as I dont want him turning it up not knowing and blowing one awsome card. Was skeptical about that card but it is a cool card (litteraly). My next Nvidia will prob. be ABIT now that VisionTek is going to the ATI scene. Next ATI of course will be VisionTek. Its all good.

I've scored well over 11k points with my Ti4400 at stock speeds... These cards scale REALLY well as the CPU clock speeds increase. I have a 1900+ and even with that, my Ti4400 is STILL cpu limited. I know this because I see a much higher performance gain when I overclock my CPU than I do when I overclock my GPU.

CPU's are still far behind the GPU's apparently in terms of performance, hence the larger gain from overclocking the CPU

I know what the cpu is but I'm confused on the GPU. And you talk about overclocking it as well. I've never learned how to overclock the cpu. Guess I just don't want to screw it up. But to overclock, is to increase the voltage to it. this correct? and what is the GPU do? Oh and just for information purpose how do you adjust the voltage ? thanks
