How to access Outlook mail files

I just built myself a new system. I stored the .dbx Outlook Express files from my old system on a CD-ROM to migrate them to my new system. I simply replaced the "empty" dbx files from my new system (Inbox.dbx, etc.) with those on the CD (I've done it before this way, and it worked). When I start Outlook Express, I can access those mails which were in Inbox, Recycle Bin etc. (the standard ones), but I can't access those mails which were in other folders I created.
I tried using the import function with no success.
How can I get those messages back? Any way to extract my lost messages from those other dbx files?

Try making a folder in OE of the same then copy and paste contents from old into new folder via windows explorer see if that takes.

When copying file to a CD-ROM it automatically makes them READ-ONLY. Copy them to your hard drive and then select them

Right Click -> Properties -> uncheck read only.

Outlook Express needs to read and write to these files in order to open or export them.

Lastly if you are using Outlook not express your mail file is a *.pst I only added tha because the thread says outlook

The dbx files weren't marked as read-only, so this wasn't the prob.
But Rangeral's tip worked. Now I actually remember that I did it that way the last time too

Thanx to both of you for the hints.

I have absolutely gotta try this. When I setup a new hard drive, I burned almost everything to CD..but was also setting up the old drive where I could access it to gather up stuff I had not burned. The old drive died, and now all I am left with is the burned images. I have already tried to copy the old DBX files into the new drive, but no luck. Thanks for the input on this one...cuz 5 years of genealogy is at stake!!!
