    Internet surfing troubles

    Hello all,

Here is my problem. When restarting my computer and then getting on the internet I get the a message that says the connection is not avaible. work off line or try agiain.

so i hit try again and then i can get on the net. But this also happens, my connection just stops working.
I use TJping for trace and pinging ip's. when my connection stops working I go to tjping and try to ping my isp. When this happens I get a host look up failed. winsock error 11001. Then I have to restart my computer and go thru the whole routine again.

If someone could give or point me towards some information on fixing this problem. It's really getting annoying.

    My specs

    win98se
    cable modem
    linksys router
    linksys nic

    Thank you.

Next time you can't connect, go to the Start button, choose Run, and type in 'winipcfg' (don't use quotation marks). If the address is zeroes and the drop-down menu shows PPP Adapter or anything other than your Linksys nic, change it so it shows your nic, Release All, Renew All, and hit ok. Then you should be able to connect. Once you do, go to your desktop, right-click on Network Neighborhood (if it's not there it's in Control Panel as simply 'Network'). Remove any adapters that you don't need and you should be fine. If you still have problems try uninstalling TCP/IP there and reinstalling it.
