    new type of overclocking case?

I know most of you have seen mini refridgerators before..I'm just curious to know if anyone has actually tried using one of these as a computer case? They usually run around < $200..which is a fairly decent price when compared to a liquid cooling system..and of course they would keep everything extremely cool..

If you've tried this before I'd appreciate any comments on the subject..even if you havent tried it and think its a good / stupid idea.

That's a "cool" idea, but you would run into problems with condensation.

You could try, but I don't think it would be worth it.

I wonder sometimes if all the money one needs for exotic cooling could be invested in having a pure silver heatsink made. That would be cool.

lol yeh it would be cool, but only if you had a nice window and some lighting around it.. you could even lace it with diamonds

Actually, it's funny you would mention diamonds as the diamond is an even better heat conductor than silver, and silver puts even copper to shame... much less aluminum.

too bad it would cost like $500000000 to get heat syncs made outta that stuff..and yeh, thats what i was thinking when i mentioned the diamonds

My chem book has something in it about diamonds as heat conductors. Industrial diamonds aren't as expensive.

While putting your entire pc in a fridge is a bad idea, using parts of a fridge to cool the water of a water-cooled computer is a good idea. It's been done before. The main problem is condensation, but there are ways to get around that when it's only on the area around the water block.
This is where my signature would go if I wasn't so lazy.

Not that I would actually do this, but what about a small, one-room AC-unit? Cold air jimmy-rigged funnel into the case via side intake fan, or something like that. You can get one of those little ac-units for $80.

That would work a lot better than putting the whole comp in a mini-fridge. Or if you live in a cold place like I do, you could just duct in 5 C air from outside.

In case anyone is actually curious as to how the thermal conductivity of diamond compares to copper and aluminum (and other stuff), check out: http://www.mse.arizona.edu/classes/m...nd/thermal.htm

Thanx, jmichna. Very interesting. Obviously the diamond is out of the question, price-wise. But how about a silver slug in copper heatsink? I wonder if silver and copper alloy well together...
