NTLDR file???
I tried to install win2000 on my friends puter, so i had to use the 4 boot disks then insert the win2000 cd. When i got to the 4th boot disk i got the blue screen of death, says there is a problem. So i plugged his HDD into my puter and installed win2000, worked fine, then i plugged his HDD back into his puter and it asked me for NTLDR... where can i get that file? And how do i install it? I also tried WIN XP and the same thing happened. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanx in advance-

You can't just plug hid HDD into your machine and then expect it to work in his machine. The specific drivers for your system were loaded and none of the drivers for his system were loaded.
Set his BIOS to autoboot and then forget the floppies. Boot directly from the Win2K CD with only the video card, motherboard, processor, RAM, HDD, and CDROM installed. After Windows finishes, then install one card at a time with a reboot in between.

His puter is pretty old. I went into bios but cant find n e where to set autoboot.

Wow, if you PC doesn't have the choice to boot from CDROM, then your PC probably isn't fast enough to run Win2kP. Usually this choice is in the BIOS where you'll have a choice of boot order. Select CDROM as your first choice...and if its not there, IMHO, forget about Win2kP & WinXP....stick with Win98 (although M$ is pulling the plug on the Win98/SE/ME line June 2003).
Good Luck!

Stark Raving MOD
Do not install win2k or xp on one computer, remove the hard drive, and expect it to work on another computer. the HAL (hardware abstraction layer) is probably different and the OS won't boot.

Just to be picky it is HAL - Hardware Abstraction Layer.

Check this site out and make a floppy boot disk.
OR if you want to be totally backwards *****-- install 98 or ME and then just install XP over it using a Win 98 Boot disk! You can select NEW install and it does a good job of clearing out the old OS
