CD-Rom won't read disks at start up
Ok, I have a Compaq, as you know they come with these Quick Restore disks. Which basicly is the operating system and drivers for everything on the Compaq. I installed regular Windows 98 and it sucks ***. On my restore disks I have Windows 98 SE. It would have all the .dll's I need and stuff. Well to use the restore disk you put them in as you first start up your computer. Well when I put them in all I get is a black screen with a blinking underscore. It won't read the CD. And for some reason the Floppy light stays on as if its trying to read it. I know there is nothing wrong with the disks because I used them on my last HD. I think I messed with my HD options or something and now it only wants to read the floppy on start up. Any suggestions to get it to read that disk?

Mod w/ an attitude
Did you create the special Compaq drive partition?
I don't think you will easily get the Compaq restore disks to work if it isn't on the original equipment.

You gotta go in your BIOS and check if your BOOT SEQUENCE...
This is what tells you in what sequence the machine will search for a bootable file...
If you want to boot from a floppy before your hard drive, the boot sequence has to be A:,C: etc... If your CD-ROM is D: then put D:,A:,C: which will read the CD-ROM, then the floppy, then the hard drive...
don't forget to put your sequence back the way it was after you're done
