D-Link Airplus PCMCIA card - odd

I have bought the above card and have my wireless network working fine. Except, that is, when about 70% of the time I switch on my laptop, the light on the D-Link Airplus does not come on. Then Windows says it has found new hardware and it gives me the option of installing drivers.

If I turn the machine on and off a few times it eventually sorts itself out.

What can I do to fix this? It has become very annoying!

What is the problem likely to be?

    Thanks,

    Jon

I now seem to be getting blue screens saying there is a hardware problem. Sometimes these happen when I boot up also.

Can we have some system specs here ? Make/model of the laptop (just saw it's a laptop, sorry )
Does it happen with external power as well or with batteries only, or vise versa ?
Eventually, it can be bad card

    Hello,

I've been working with some Airport & Wireless network adapters for a few month for now and had a lot (i mean it) of problems with DLink hardware components. Blue screens (Win98 & 2000), computer freeze 'cause it lost the signal, multiple hardware detection, etc...

In the PC Wireless technology, I would recommand the IBM and the Toshiba Wireless PCMCIA cards. Too expensive? You might want to go with the Skyline Farallon (www.proxim.com) card. It works real smooth in Windows XP Pro.

For your problem, check if you are using the most recent PCMCIA driver (I know, WinXP does a great job detecting hardware, but a driver update might be available on your laptop's manufacturer's web site).

Also, in the BIOS, configure your PCMCIA ports to "auto-detection" instead of Cardbus 16Bits, etc...

    Until next time,

    Djinn
