    Car Audio

Hello all i have been building computers for several years, and recently i had helped with a few car audio installs. Anyway i was wondering if any one had anyreally good links for advice on setups. i curently have a 400watt x 4(for the door, highs, 6x9's, and tweeters), and 2400watt amp and 1 frad cap. i am thinking of running a 00 wire to the amp but amnot sure what gauge i should use i would think anything over 4 should do but i want an agressive look to the fattiness of the wire. I also need info on boxes. i have built 1 or 2 but i really need some detailed info on them as well. I have yet to buy the subs and i am thinking of either 2 12"s, 2 18"s, or 6 12"s.

oh and i will be putting them in my stealth with limited space and i need to access the spare so it must be removable.

i was wondering the difference between a ported and non-ported box. the subs im looking into getting recomend a non-ported box.
    any who thanks in advance.

if you haveany really great advice or anything i would love to hear it. my e-mail is bradshilling@planetcable.net

p.s. i figure with everyone knowing about computers someone must also be into audio comps.

If i were you i would run 0 gauge power and ground wires. Since your space is limited i would get subs that run in a small sealed box, ported or bandpass boxes just take up to much space.

Two Infinity Kappa Perfect 12s would be plenty of bass. Personally i use JBL subs, I have one 12" JBL GT powered by a Pheonix Gold 1000 watt amp, in the back of my 91 CRX and it out pounded two JL Audio 12s

This might help you choose the right box for you?

sealed = crisp bass notes, minimal space internal air volume
ported = typyically deeper bass notes, little less crispness and accuracy.

I use a sealed 1.0cu. ft. sealed box with a single 12" Image Dynamics IDQ DVC in my trunk powered by a 400watt rms amp. Great sound, the sub is known for its SQ.

400wattx4 is a lot for doors especially for tweeters. Check your rating, might be peak and not RMS.

you might need a crossover for the front speakers too, that way they arent playing bass notes that your sub handles (unless you amp has a multi variable xover).

As for guage check the rating of the wires, they usually have a max load rating on them. 0 guage though is big so if u can run it inside the car u might have to run it under the car in a channel.

If you have limited space then 6 12" are out and so are 2 18" subs. They air requirements would be so massive on them.

Also for boxes you can go to your local friendly audio store and they will build a box for you. I had one build so it fits against my back seat wtih amp space so i can also access my spare tire if needbe. The amps are accessible by foldign the seat down.

Sealed enclosers definitly sound tighter and less boomy.

You may want to look through the archives of CAE. A few years ago they had a stealth install, I can't seem to find it though and it may not be on their site but was in one of their mags. ALSo the have a couple articles on Box Basics.
