DVD Causes "Errors" to be logged in XP event viewer

I have an ASUSTek E616 DVD-ROM drive thats been giving me Problems. It has never really impressed me since I purchased it brand new about 5mnths ago. I posted a thread about it here some time ago and got some advise on how to improve performance and followed it which gave me better results but still not perfect. I decided to "Reformat" my hdd and before installing anything else I installed "powerDVD" that came with the drive and tested it on my nice clean system but its still disapointing. If I view the "Event Viewer" while I have a cd (of any type) in the drive I notice several error messages that will go on as long as the cd is playing. Thats strange because the cd actually plays but all the while an error is being logged second by second.
The log will look something like this:
    Type Date Time Source
    Error 5/11/2002 7:11:31 p.m. cdrom
    Error 5/11/2002 7:11:31 p.m. cdrom
    Error 5/11/2002 7:11:27 p.m. cdrom
    Error 5/11/2002 7:11:26 p.m. cdrom
    Error 5/11/2002 7:11:26 p.m. cdrom
    Error 5/11/2002 7:11:26 p.m. cdrom
    Error 5/11/2002 7:11:26 p.m. cdrom
    Error 5/11/2002 7:11:26 p.m. cdrom
    Error 5/11/2002 7:11:26 p.m. cdrom
    Error 5/11/2002 7:11:26 p.m. cdrom
    Error 5/11/2002 7:11:24 p.m. cdrom
    Error 5/11/2002 7:11:24 p.m. cdrom
    Error 5/11/2002 7:11:23 p.m. cdrom

    Anyone have any ideas please??

Did you ever actually expand the error and read the details? There's probably a "bad block" on the CD. What that means is there's likely a scratch. Fortunately, the drive has error-correction for predicting and correcting missing data errors.

My advice? If it works, don't fix it. Most CDs will have "bad blocks".

Yes you were right about the "Bad block" thing Bill and I can't agrue with the "don't fix it if it ain't broke" advise either.

As far as the DVD playback, (Seems Sluggish, Sometimes Jumpy, pixel distortions occer now and then) do you have any recomedations or tips to optimise performance?

    My specs:
    1.2gig AMD Duron (not overclocked)
    ASUS A7A266-E m/b
    256mb PC 133 SDRAM
Gigabyte MAYA Ar series Radeon 7500 Pro 64mb (not overclocked)
Maxtor 4D040H2 40 gig HDD (Primary Master)
ASUSTek E616 DVD-ROM drive (Secondary Master)
    Power DVD XP 4.0
    WinXP Pro

I've experimented with several different combinations of supported resolutions and color quality with little effect on the fore mentioned playback problems .
