Re-Booting Issues
Hello all
hjave been facing some rebooting issues lately. It all started when I was under Win2k, but it is still the case today, and I use now WinXP.
Here how it goes:
Computer works PERFECT, until suddenly it reboots. Temperature is fine, around 45°C for the CPU and it is an Athlon TBird @ 1400 not overclocked.
Any ideas why is this happening?
Thanks.
PS: Annoying WinXP would not let me watch TV with my ATI All in Wonder Radeon... What the heck? I tried all patches/drivers!!!
PPS: Is it "normal" that Internet Explorer crashes so often in WinXP?

That looks like a hardware problem.
I would test the system with diagnostic programs, and if that fails to isolate the problem, I would try a different PSU - power suppy unit.
Does the computer have a quality PSU?
If it does, it could be underpowered or overloaded.

Hey Eric,
thanks a lot for the quick reply.
I was thinking about the PSU myself... The thing is that it is a 300Watt ANTEC so it can be considered as "quality" I guess...
However, it IS running kind of hot lately, maybe my two extra fans make it work too hard... Will check this out...
Thanks for the utilities links, I'm going to try to find if it is "only" a PSU problem...
Any ideas on this ATI AIW Radeon problem I have?
Thanks again!

Flakey memory could be a source of rebooting you should run [b[memtest86[/b] keep in mind it takes a long time to complete a single cycle.

before we move on to the ATI AIW is best to fix your computer first then that.
as per the ATI AIW trouble, you might have to Start from Stractch, as in Format / re-Install XP
why?
there's a CRUCIAL STEP during the installation, that if you skipped or failed, it will make it not to work, and stupid Win-any version, will not install that has been missed even if you re-install, cuz of the way the dumb registry works, and the WFP works, which wont let you overwrite the files needed.
anyways, fixe the reboot problem first then i'll give ya a hand on that one
but it's rather extremely simple if you did it by the letter as they have on the website
and use Catalyst 2.3
BTW, i think we have an ATI spy here
cuz the steps they have now in their websites, are exactely the steps i've been using people here at sysopt 3 weeks before they had it, or anyone knew about.

geez they could have at least given me some credits, or hired me

AllGamer,
thanks for the tip.
Anyhow, here's the deal: If the crusial step you refer to is NOT rebooting or installing first the appropriate driver, I followed EXACTLY what they have on their website...
Even funnier, in the beginning my pc was working fine, but now when it gets to the log-in screen of windozeXP (where you can select users) the display is comlpletely screwed. It is "split" in 3 identical parts in a vertical way, and I see 3 times the same thing... However, when I turn off my monitor and then back on, screen gets back to normal display/refresh rate.
I don't beleive my rebooting has to do with my ATI card, but I am thinking about this possibility too.
Truth is that PSU is running pretty hot sometimes, and it IS pretty full of dust, so that's where I will look for an answer first...
Neverthless, I would appreciate a solution to my problem...
Do I "need" to install the MMC of ATI or not by the way?
Thank,
M.
