Epox bios setting?
I was building a system today with a epox 8kta3+Pro board. When I set the
bios up I had 1st boot device cd,2nd boot device cd, third boot device
floppy and other boot device HDD. This system has a cd, cdrw, floppy and
hard drive, just 1 hard drive, I am not using the raid controller at all.
Nothing even plugged into the controllers on the motherboard on the raid
side. I have set systems up like this before with epox boards and no
problems. What is happening now is when I cut the computer on I get the
normal screen, when it gets to the part where it says boot from CD, boot
from CD it just hangs there. I can put the win 98 cd in the cd rom and when
I do that it will come to the part where it says boot from cd, then it will
go to the next screen that ask do I want to boot from cd or hard drive. I
choose hard drive and everything is well. IF I do not put the windows cd in
the cd drive though it just hangs on the boot from cd. I have the bios set
to boot from floopy on 1st device and hard drive as second device and it
works ok.It is just when I put boot from the cd's as the 1st and 2nd device.
I would like to have the setting where it would look from the cd's first.
Like I said had this board on another system and had it set up as booting
from cd's 1st with no problems. Don't know what is going on now.
Thanks in advance
John

My ECS K7S5A allows me to choose boot device by pressing F8 during the memory check. I just make the HDD first device - it's faster. If I need something different, I press F8 and choose it once. It's the best system. See if yours is the same.

Your HD is set as master on one of the IDE channels, right???
Also, why so many boot devices before you finally get to the HD? I'd just go with one CD-ROM, then HD, then floppy. Don't know if you can select with your mobo, a'la Bill's suggestion.

I did try with just 1 of the cd roms set up as first boot device. It still did the same thing, just hung when the screen said boot from cd. If I put the win 98 disk in it will go to the next screen and give me the option of booting from cd or hard drive. Never ran into this problem before. I do have the hard drive set as master on its on controller. I had set this board up in another machine and it worked as all the other epox boards have in the past. Would say boot from cd and then go to next screen, if a bootable cd was in the drive it would say press any key to boot from cd. Don't really know why it is doing this. I had always set cd as 1st boot, floppy as second and HD as third. I will try what Bill mentioned tomorrow when I get back to work and can play with it some more.
Thanks for the tips guys.

Try setting your other devices as "disable", then set "try other boot devices" as "yes".
See if that helps...
