System Not identifying EDO RAM

I Have Wipro Acermate 920 P I with EDO RAm ( 8MBx2 )=16 MB.
Now i wanted to upgrade it to 32 MB.
i have single strip EDO RAM 32 MB(72 Pin).But after installing it the system is not getting booted i.e. it is not identifying the RAM.
I have duly checked the slots , The RAM also both are ok , but still it is troubling me.

My question is :

1) whether P1 is capable to identifying single strip of EDO RAM or not.
2) if yes then what changes i need to make in CMOS.

EDO ram must be installed in pairs...

rule of thumb

if your pc has 4 simm slots.......yes matched pair

if your pc has 3 simm slots.....you can mix the edo
