If i were you, I'd vote not to clean at all.

that's the women's job, man. Playing online games and messing around with our pcs are hard and time consuming enough.

    Jeez. craaaazy.

If you have to have carpet, move everything, or you can't ever move it, cuz the clean spots would show

    Prefer Hardwood myself

I have my own carpet shampooer. I just get the dirty spots. That is, I don't shampoo under the sofas or big chairs. Nobody or anything has tracked anything there.

You don't want to over shampoo a carpet. You can kill it. You don't need to buy special cleaners. You probably have them in your home already. 409 will work just fine. What you really need to purchase is anti-foaming agent to kill the foam in the recovery tank. Also Simple Green works fine. Just dilute them.

A quality carpet should last longer than 2 years, so it's going to cost a bit. It's not that I don't like carpet, I just prefer hardwood.

I just clean my carpets a room at a time. That way it isn't a chore. For tougher spots, I preclean them with a good deck brush...and let it sit a while.

The problem with cleaning anything is that most people are impatient. A little precleaning or allowing things to sit for an hour or two works wonders.

I try to keep as few different kinds of cleaners around as possible. It's a waste of money. The citrus based D'LIMONENE products can be an excellent all purpose cleaner, laundry detergent, and prespotter. The stuff is very powerful, so you have to be careful to dilute it properly. The stuff took off oxidation from my car in one blow. But I had to move FAST, it wanted to take the paint off also!

I use about 1 fluid oz. to a gallon of water to shampoo carpets. If necessary, I'll repeat the process.

Plus carpets can be bad for computers since they can cause static electricity and damage the computer if you're working on their innards! Heheh
