Computer stereotypes
This has really been buggin me lately.... the stereotype that all computer users/enthusiasts are fat, lazy, unpopular, 'geeky' losers.
I don't know about you guys, but I reckon that most enthusiasts are regular people who happen to have an interest in computers instead of I don't know.... motorbikes or something. I guess it just really ****s me when someone is called a 'nerd' or something because they're into computers.
Tell me your thoughts, and then tell me a bit about yourselves, hopefully I'm right in my ideas. By the way, I'm 17, play guitar, am physically active (I do martial arts and cross country), and have an active social life)

yeah i know what you mean, im doing a degree at uni in computing and if im talking to a lass be it in a club or anywhere i find myself reluctant to say what im doing at uni, opting to just say managment instead !
As for me i play in most of the local village teams, pub football, local cricket and basketball so im fit i suppose, but as soon as people learn i work with computers its like i have a big X accross my head
Ah well, if people are like that in IMHO they can go shaft themelves, they aint worth my time
Rant over (maybe)

Lol. No seriously though, I think everyone is sick of and has outgrown that old stereotype.
Well I hope so anyways, cause I've noticed that most 'nerds' these days don't know much about computers anyway and only use them to look up star trek porn
I'm going to go ********** now, bye

If you're secure enough in who you are and what you are, who care's, the real you will show through if people really want to see you.

I'm a nerd, I wear glasses, I use computers, I build computers, however, I also have an AAS in Automotive Technology, and work on cars ( used to do that for a living)(I was also fully ASE certified as a master technician and a Nissan Master Tech. I also held a Vocational instructors cert. in Automotive, does this make me a nerd?). I am also a photographer, and build model railroads. If I had the cash, I 'd own a motorcycle. Does this all fit in the Nerd stereotype? I don't think so. But I'm a nerd, I garden, I also do woodworking I also cook, quite well for a man, and many other things, so let them call me a nerd, who really cares?? The are only showing their ignorance by calling us nerds, laugh at them and go on about your business, and take their money when the computer breaks and they call you to fix it,.,

I think it sucks too.
"So, what do you do?"
"i'm a tiler"
"Waht about you?"
"A builder."
"You?"
Network Administrator."
It seems that IT is not classed as a real job. But I think that all the other professions are a wee bit jealous of the fact that we have it alot easier on the body than them. Granted, I think. I know I don't have to cart 60 Kg of tiles up onto a roof that I will thereafter slip off. Referring to Roofies, at least.
But I am sure there are plenty of people on Sysopt that are not working in the IT field. I work at McDonald's, for example, and am studying IT. But I am still a nerd...
such is life.

Not until junior year high school that rag starts to pitter away. In college, having a brand new Dell made me Mr. Popular with a lot of people cause it beat the comp labs. Plus, playing over the t1 lines with quake/doom/unreal was awesome and tons did it! I see so many different people in computer stores nowadays.
And who cares if people say "nerd" or "dork." Whatever. Try being 150 pounds wet and playing on a college rugby team. Then you'll be crying home to mommy....um, I never did that. Honest
