    I've never seen this B4

Took HSF unit off this Athlon 700 & there was thermal
    stuff everywhere !!!

I mean it was covering everything!!! die bridges all

Stupid question this may sound but does the white
gooey stuff get runny when it gets hot?

It was really too close to running underneath & glooping all
    the pins up !!!!!!!!

I've cleaned it up but not turned it on yet

OOOOhhhhhh boy .. it worked when I got it tho

    Nervous

Sounds to me like you have cheap white thermal grease all over the place and not very practical when keeping your cpu temps down buy AS3 .

Someone put too much paste on there.

The cheap thermal paste works fine and has for years.

You did apply some thermal paste after you put it back together, right? It does not take very much.

    LOL melted.
