    Windows XP Professional Shutdown

I shut down and then choose turn off. My windows xp pro tells me i have power down my machine. Why does it not shut down the WHOLE thing?

I have to still press the power button. In fact hold it in for 4 seconds before it actually turns off. In my BIOS (Award 4.51) it says there "instant" ( i have a choice of 4 second delay or instant)

    Please help

    Thanks
    Thanks

XP likes to spend time shutting down its services before its ready to shutdown, if you have apps running in the background then it takes longer. I'd disable those apps and try this reg tip to speed up the services scanning.

    Start Regedit.
    Navigate to

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control.

    Click on the "Control" Folder.
    Select "WaitToKillServiceTimeout"
Right click on it and select Modify.
Set it a value lower than 2000 mine is set to 200, you can try that and see how you make out.

The machines default value is 20000.

Thanks for the HINT , what i mean is that my machine doesnt actually turn off everything inclusing the power supply and stuff? maybe i have not waited long enough... i dont know...

do u know what i mean?

Yes , i know what u were saying , it kills whatever was running, example winamp, it killed my winamp, and then only it shut down, but it still asks me to turn it off after. I have to press my power button.

    why?

    Anyways
    thanks for that hint.

get back to me again , thanks
    Thanks

    Do you have APM Enabled?

both in at BIOS Level and at Windows Level?

    are you using ACPI? (optional)

is your Computer, set up to run as Standard PC, or ACPI <name> PC?
