Upgrades, Upgrades, Upgrades!
Ahh...it's that time of the year...time to upgrade my computer! Well, i recently got a whole bunch of things for my computer, but those components are merely accessories. Now im down to the real nitty gritty of my computer. the CPU, RAM, and Hard drive.
Should i stay with what i've got? or plunk down the cash?
Current Setup:
1.4ghz Tbird @1.53ghz [pre-unlocked! ]
30gb 5400rpm Seagate
256mb PC2700 Samsung DDR
I'm wondering what i should upgrade on my system in light of the new first person shooters (my video card seems fine, GF4ti4200)
----
Should i wait until xmas time and get a 2600+ when the prices come down? Or is my 1.53ghz Tbird sufficient?
Should i get a new 7200rpm hard drive and use my 5400rpm hard drive for mp3 and movie storage? Or is this 5400rpm 30gb bugger good enough?
Should i get more ram? or is 256mb sufficient?
----
Thanks

Gone Forever.......
If I were you I would wait it out till early January( not that far away really) and get pretty much a total make-over so to say.
Amd Opteron(hammer)
The ram should be different then also
Geforce 5/radeon 9700or whatever they have out then.
New mobo dont forget as the the hammer isnt socket A anymore.
I think you can make it till then easy.

Its horses for courses and you will get opposite opinions in here about what you have asked, however I think most would say get yourself a faster HD.
Wait till xmas when the prices come down??Yeah maybe but by then there will be something bigger and better which will prolly catch your eye, kinda like a dog chasin its tail I reckon
All in all if you are happy with the setup you have stick with it cept for that HD

yeah. i think ill go get a new hdd! with those 80mb textures in doom3... !
anyways. i'm thinking can spend maybe $80-$100 on a hard drive. my best bet is to get maybe a 50gb 7200hdd and use my old 30gb one for backups, movies, mp3s, etc. ANyway, it's about time i get a new hard drive, it is 3 years old after all

You should notice a difference then.

I think it's been said before that if you keep waiting and waiting for the latest and greatest then you'll never get anything because something better and faster is always coming out in this world of computers.

Yes it has Snix but you can plain a new upgrade around a new release like the Hammer or P5 or Geforce 5. Or whatever.

I really don' t think i need the NV30 or R9700. Honestly, i think it's pointless to pay a premium just for having the latest hardware, but that's the industry. For example, doom 3 was designed with the geforce3 in mind anyways.
Also, since im not gonna upgrade my cpu right now..i want to overclock. On this current cooling setup, i can make it up to 1.6ghz but the temps reach an idle of 52 and a heavy load of 55. I know that those are acceptable or even "good" temperatures, but im not happy until it's in the low 50s or in the 40s. So what hsf should i get that's good for this sort of thing? I currently have a Coolermaster Copper hsf, no heat pipe thing, and it's at like 6800rpm.
