Pentium 3 450mhz too hot?
Hello,
I've got a Dell Optiplex GX1 Low Power profile desktop
Processor: Pentium 3 450 mhz Slot 1 Secc2 cartridge
RAM: 256 sd ram pc 133
6,4 GB HD
Video: Ati 3d rage pro
OS: Windows XP pro
The problem:
My processor is getting too hot.
I benchmarked the system today and the temperature of the CPU was 61 Celsius!
Is this too high?
I monitored it with Hmonitor and i benchmarked with Sisoft Sandra.
On the Intel side I read the max temp for this processor is 90 celsius....
Is my temperature normally or too high? Is this dangerous for my processor?
Greets,
Dark Zen

At this moment i am running a p3 500 temps 35 celsius but i presently have my case off with 3 pabst fans hitting the side of the open computer case and thus is the reason why i have those temps you should be ok with those temps here is a website that gives you temps for different cpu's http://www.heatsink-guide.com/2hotornot.htm

Yep, this would be too hot
But still within the safe range.
Remember running P3 450MHz at about 40°C (and it's hot in Israel ).

Thank you for your reply's
So it's a little bit too hot but i don't need to worry?
The maximum allowed temp for my processor is 90 celsius so i am still under.........
What can i do to make the processor a little bit cooler?
Idle: 38 celsius (while i'm on the internet)
Full load after 15 minutes (playing a game, benchmarking 60-65 celsius)

you can start by changing the heatsink and fan with an aftermarket also use ARTIC SILVER THERMAL compound add a few more fans in your case and that should do the trick

its always good to add 2-3 fans for you case!

Dark Zen, do not worry about your CPU temp.
i used to have a pent 3, 450Mhz, and i averaged around 60oC after playing hours of games, and i had 3 fans in there to boot.
Honestly, dont worry about your CPU temp. the pent 3 450Mhz is pretty much a minium spec anyway, and i'm sure you intend to upgrade at some point. Dont go buying any paste or heatsinks, because 60oC didnt do my CPU any harm, and i say that after using the pent 3 for 4 years or more.
60oC does seem high.. but we're not talking cutting edge hardware anymore, and we're not talking about an AMD..
i think you're safe. Do not worry. Only start to worry is you get undue system lock-ups or crashes/freezes.
