Help my PC won't shut down!!!
When I try to restart or shut down my computer from the start menu it closes all programs and then when the desktop is empty, when desktop wallpaper is on the screen without icons and taskbar, it stops with the shut down procedure. I have reinstalled (repaired) Windows XP Professional that day and then the problem occurred. What can I do to solve this problem.

you can fix this with X-SETUP it's a program that helps you tweak windows.
what you want to do is to shorten the time for those HUNG software to DIE faster.
it might be caused by hardware.
but 99% of the time is software related.

I have tried that without success.

then for now for troubleshooting, before you shutdown, you can go into services, and stop all the services 1 by 1 and then shutdown, to see if that makes any difference.,
then we can know if it's hardware of software cause.

Also disable any exit sound (if you are using one), and make sure software that you may have running is definatly XP compatible. One good example of this problem is Roxio CD creator, if you don't have the XP update for this software, you will have shutdown trouble.
