    compaq presario 8301 in xp

I have compaq presario model 8301 that was shutting down properly(power off completely) with win ME, but not until I clean installed win xp pro.
Now it wouldnt shut off by itself, I have to manually turn the switch to turn it off.

these are some programs included, win xp pro, norton anti virus 2002, office 2000.
any idea how to correct the problem? thx

play around with your APM options or the ACPI.

if that's not the case, then you can reinstall Windows, so it can redetect all your hardwares.

i had a similar problem with an old mobo that was not fully APM compliant.

ACPI is a BIOS option, see if it's ON or OFF, it makes a slight difference.

but the important part is the APM

that one is also available in the BIOS, but it's also available in Windows in the Control Panel
