    No beeps. Intermittent problem

PC I built for a customer has started displaying the following problem:-

Sometimes when the power is switched on the fan and HDD spin up but no POST and no beeps. Other times it starts up fine.

    Athlon XP2100
    512Mb PC2100 RAM
    GF4 MX440 64Mb DDR card
    ECS K7S5A Motherboard
    Artec 40 12 48 CDRW
    Artec 16 48 DVD
    Seagate 40Gb 7200rpm HDD

Customer has since added his own NIC (claims it was installed by professional) and PC has worked since upgrade.

    Any ideas?

sounds like maybe a psu problem, I have seen them where the only sections (12v, 5v, 3v) of the psu will output correctly. It is odd that it is intermittent??

Could be the PSU. However with this particular motherboard, the ECS K7S5A, they've been prone to some particular problems. Couple of questions, what size PSU are you using? As long as you're using 300w or more, it should be okay. Some people will say you need 400, sure you could use it, but it's not necessary. To me it sounds like you have a grounding problem. This mobo is famous for that. I would make sure you're using the correct washers to attach it to the case. Some of the other problems with this board are with the memory and reseating the graphics card. I've even seen someone who's CDRW was slightly touching a stick of memory and causing the ground.

My PSU is 350W and it's like 8 months old...

Thanks for your suggestions gentlemen/ladies, had a call from the customer this am. His friend who'd installed the NIC had replaced it with another and now everything is working fine.
I knew it wasn't me all along.
