Why is XP taking forever to share folders?

I have several folders setup to be shared on a system with XP Pro. When i boot up it takes like 2 minutes for the folders to have the hand under them. And there are other machines that depend on those folders. Having to wait 2 minutes is not acceptable. Anyone know what might be causing this?

what's the Spec of your computer with the shares?

and what type of networking are you using?

also what's the speed of your network?

if you are using tcp/ip, is it on static or DHCP?

    are you running novell netware?

    etc....

    Sorry about that.

    Heres the specs:

regular desktop machine, amdXP1800+, 512 megs ram and all the usual parts for a desktop.

type of networking is just a simple workgroup setup

    speed is 10Mbit

tcp/ip is enabled but no internet connection is on the network

there is nothing like novell running. all that is running is the workstations which only run a dental software an thats about it.

Make sure that every computer is able to do DNS resolution back and forth properly.

    that will fix the problem
