What's the best video card for its buck?

    Hello Forum,

I am deciding on a new video card for my computer. I will be using the computer for a lot of gaming such as Counter Strike, Half-Life, and other high demanding games on the market. I also use a few high demand programs that require pretty high graphix support. My price range is generally anything below $100....but I'd rather find a video card for under $85. I don't think I want a 128 MB video card...too much money and way over what I need. Hopefully, one of the links below suits my needs

As a general response (I haven't slicked those links), the GF3ti200 is good value for money, Id' stay clear of GF4MXs, but GF4ti4200 is good value if you want higher performance and more future-proofing.

I just bought a128MB Gf3ti200 with tv out a few months back now, and I am pleased with it and it wasn't that expensive.

If you want a budget card then you could get a Gf4mx, but a lower spec gf3 has more 'features' (ie stuff like pixel shading) for a similar price I think.

You didn't specify your needs though, are you a gamer or what?

The only problem with going the extra couple of bucks for me is that I really have to keep a budget. In order for this new video card to work with my system, I am going to have to buy a new Motherboard, CPU, and Case. So I cannot afford to go top of the line for all of those categories.

The GF3ti200 will probably suit you best out of those listed then.

Gf3 is the best out of the list performance wise, and if you intend to do any serious gaming steer clear of anythng with the letters MX in it

I will likely buy a 64 MB and preferably with DDR memory.

Most of the cards you listed are DDR anyways, but you may want to consider 128mb RAM, what with reports that Doom 3 will need 80mb of texture memory, i think that if you want to be playing games for the future, a gf3 ti200 128mb might suit you best, afterall the price difference between 64mb and 128mb is now fairly negligible neways

I want to thank you all for helping me to choose the video card that best suits me. I have decided to go with the Geforce3 TI-200 64 MB. It is within my budget, and waaaaay better than the video card I have in my computer right now..lol.

    Thanks guys,

I would take a look at sybercom for some pretty good deals on Geforce 3 ($95) and Geforce 3 Ti200 ($94) video cards. They are made by Visiontek, a reputable manufacturer. Their Geforce 2 Ti is a very good buy for a decent fast card ($53 if you are really on a budget), although it doesn't support the latest dx 8.1 features like the Geforce 3 cards and the very expensive Geforce 4 Ti line. I would worry about your linked cards due to the nameless manufacturer and the 30 day warranty, not to mention $14 for shipping .
I ordered one of the Geforce 3 (non Ti 200) cards from sybercom and have been quite pleased with it. After all, the same card went for about $350 less than a year ago . Good luck
