    Slower CDR media

I just upgraded my 4x4x24 cdrw to a 24x10x40. I have *boatloads* of cdr's that are rated at 4x. What happens if I try to use these in the new drive? Will they just fail, or will the drive detect that they're slower than optimum and slow down, or what? I'd hate to lose them all but I also don't have any need for coasters.

    Thanks
    Tom H

Some software will try to determine the speed rating of your cds, but to make sure you don't get plastic frisbees, you can manually set the burn speed to 4x.

    plastic frisbees
I thought frisbees were plastic. lol

You can try burning at a higher speed but expect many errors, that some readers will find easy to correct at full speed, but some wont and your discs will be unreadable. Or you might get a coaster
