    Virus Warning??? What's going on??

    Ok, Check this guys:

I just ran up Outlook Express and got about 3 "message sending failed, returning message to sender" emails.

I looked through them, and they were from some virus detection server, telling me that the email i'd sent to "joe bloggs" was infected with a virus "W95/Lentin.F@mm". One of these emails even sent me back the original email, with an attatched file, which blatently looked dodgy.

Thing is, I never heard of the people these emails were sent to, and there's no copy of the alleged emails in my "sent" folder. Nor did I ever receive the email in the first place, so I certainly didn't open the attatchement.

I've got XP Pro, and ZoneAlarm Pro 3, and I regularly update and scan my computer with Vexira Antivirus.

After receiving the messages, I ran the update on the virus scanner and did a full scan of my system and it didn't find anything. I've had a look on the internet for a virus called that but apparently it doesn't exist, not even as a hoax.

It did say on one of the emails that got "returned" to me that some viruses fake the sender address, does that mean that perhaps my system was never infected in the first place?

Dodgy, very dodgy. Anyone heard of this virus? Or anyone had a similar thing happen?

    Sh*t.....

I don't get it man - why won't the virus scanner detect it? Is my system not infected, or is the virus scanner ****?

I personally run Norton 2002, but there are a lot of other programs out there.

    AVG is free.

    Aha!

"The From field is a randomly-selected email address and may not be the legitimate sender."

The link you posted gives symptoms of an infected machine (ie altered registry values) it doesn't look like i've got it after all.

Strange - never had this happen to me before!

    Cheers for your help, mate
