Poll- Do you have any unresolved problems?

After trying to work through some recent computer problems and finding no resolution to some I began to wonder if others have shared similiar fates. My question is- Do you have some stupid little problem that you haven't been able to fix, but since it doesn't slow you down you have left it alone?

Not on this computer - but on my Athlon 700 whenever I try to install Windows, setup hangs at the point where it says "Setup is starting Windows" after it has loaded through the blue screen phase of setup. Does it in XP and 2k.

Ive had temporary ones -- if that makes esne - you know things that have taken a good few months to get sorted -- like the time i couldnt get the OS to install for bout 2 month and it was all down to a pesky nakered CDRW...

I always seem to have some problem or other all the tiem - wether it be a little niggle or a major problem, the majority of the time they are software realted or related to the OS / drivers... however not and again theyre down to hardware -- usually hardware that i have damaged in some way - such as the afore mentioned cdrw and my last CPu which i knocked a lump out of

Bah, ive posted about this 3 times or so, then no one seemed to care..... Anyway, ive got an athlon 1.2 ghz that runs at 900 mhz. It runs this way becuase the fsb wont go up to 266 for unknown reasons.
    Iwill ka266 mobo
    256 mb bargain basement ram
    good modem

When its put up to 266 mhz bus, the pc only boots about 1 in every 10 times, the other times it doesn't even get past post. Im totally clueless, maybe this ram is messed up(but then why does it run ok at 200 mhz?). Yes, im sure its pc 2100, and yes, im sure I have an athlon 1.2 ghz, not a 900 mhz. Its not my comp, so I don't wanna spend money fixing it. My parents are cheap, so they wont even try buying new ram, and they wont let me update the bios becuase of risk of misflash. Ive tried the jumpers and the bios fsb settings, and both at once. Same thing. It runs fine at 200 mhz bus, been running like this for about a year. No one cares that its missing 300 mhz except me, and they don't want me messing with it. 266 bus would not only speed up the processor, but ram too. BUT NOOOOOO, my parents dont care.
    Kinda sad huh?

    Any one their encounter this!
already exciting one cd drive and I have to install one hard drive but it wont’ accept the hard drive almost 2 hour figuring out what’s wrong and playing the jumper , when I ready the manual I notice the note not supported any ide hard disk only for cd drive,,,,, only option I got is to use the scsi drive or replace the system.

Don’t rely on your memory always consult the manual.

I don't think the 1.2GHz Athlon was meant to run at 266MHz. I believe the 266MHz model began at 1.33GHz, I could be wrong, but that's what I think.

try running at 200MHz and adjusting the Multiplier instead.

Take a look at this Screenshot of my 1.4 Thunderbird and see if the model revision is the same.

Si there not a preset list in the BIOS under which you just set ti to 1.2ghz AMD athlon...??

If not try runnign it at 100mhz 12x multiplier and see if you can get a post...

I had a real annoying problem in w2k when I had ADSL. It would not remember the correct password. It's a bug several people have had and I never did find a fix. If my line tests good for ADSL when I move next week I will have it again.

fluffycow, did you try to bump the voltage up? Update the BIOS. Also what size power supply does it have? If I remember correctly all those were unlocked so you should be able to adjust the mutiplier without having to unlock them.

three new Athlon processors, all of which support the 266MHz (133MHz DDR) FSB frequency. These are the new 1GHz, 1.13GHz and 1.2GHz processors

Yeah when i picked up my 1ghz last year i took the 200mhz rather than the 266Mhz for the extra FSB o/c'ing head room, all of the 1ghz+ chips come in both 200 & 266mhz FSB flavours...dont they??

My present computer is fine, but my first attempt at building one wasn't very satisfying.

Never did get the thing resolved. Ironically, I now have 3 comps running AMD chips. Must be one of those "fanboys" I've heard about!

I'm still gonna steer clear of Gigabyte, though.

I've got a boot problem with my mouse. When the system goes to load the things in the task bar, it hooks with the mouse. As long as you don't move the mouse for a few minutes after a boot all is well, however if you move it, the system hooks, the cursor disappears and you have to wait for it to come back. Once it's done this, it's fine. I contacted Logitech, what a joke. I've gotten the newest drivers, updated windows Me, the only thing that has really made a difference is if I turn off the mouse software on boot, then it'll boot normally.
