WAR: INTEL vs AMD
Ok guys, I am updating my computer and I think I am going for the AMD Athlon XP 1800 1.53GHz 266MHz Bus (dual 133 MHz bus versus INTEL's less impressive quad 100MHz bus to achieve 400MHz bus -- thanx Gib for the info on that). From what I have heard the AMD processor's are much better than the Intel's. They seem to be more efficient and better for gamers with good GeForce cards. P4's go into 2GHz, but are AMD's still impressive? Compare the bus, efficiency, effectivness with other components, etc... THE DEBATE BEGINS
There is much controversy. There are AMD supporters and Intel supporters. So this thread is the place to state your case.
WHO IS BETTER: AMD or Intel ?????

How what when?
Intel has the superior FSB bus speed all around! Try 133 quad =533fsb vs. AMD's 133 x2 =266mhz. Dont take a genious to se which has the stronger fsb! Intel is quad pumping the bus whilst AMD is double pumping. Also in gaming both are about= so I dont now where AMD is better for games comes from. Thats fan fud all the way.
WHO IS BETTER: AMD or Intel ?????
Neither there both = end of story!

"Intel 400mhz bus isnt a an advantage really. That is a quad pmped 100mhz
bus. Amd has a dual pumped 133mhz bus"
U put those words in ur email. I have also since read the same thing

well, P4Gamer--only the 2.0GHz+ P4s have the 533mhz option--and If you look at thosed prices too, often times they are $350+(close to about $550 here for a 2.4Ghz), yeah, the new 533Ghz P4s are indeed faster than the newer AthlonXPs, and they certainly had better be for the leap in price! As for best bang for your dollar, the AMD still "ownz" the Intel chips. Also, the discrepencies between each chip arn't so great in my opinion, that the new P4s should be plugged and made into what they are.
Of course, as for the Intel vs. AMD debate, I label myself a fervent AMD supporter. The computer I'm using now is an AMD, and I've been pleased with its performance for my games. *shrugs* If AMD keeps up its lovey wuvey goodness, I'll continue to buy their products.

2.0GHz- I can get for way less than $350+. Anyhow in 6 months or even 3 how much you think there gonna be. Alot less -so once again this is a old tired useless arguement that no one is the winner of. I agree gibsinep:

People please, theres gotta be better things to talk about other than the same old useless get no where ****. This is why I quit posting in the cpu forum all together. I wouldnt have even posted in this one -but it was moved from elsewheres. So thats all for me. I'm outta here, again.

XP vs AMD
The XP and the Northwood both have various advantages. What's often forgotten is the prices for each. People don't say, "I'm going to buy a 2 gig processor", (or in XP's case, a 2 PR processor) They say, I'm spending about $160 (or X amount) on a processor. On www.pricewatch.com, that $160 will get you either a XP 2100 or a 1.9 P4. The 2100 will waste the P4 in any benchmark.
So, unless you intend on spending $300+ for the newest Northwood, AMD is the way to go.
This is where my signature would go if I wasn't so lazy.

Oh no, not this again. Amd's cpu's are better for their speed compared to p4's by far. Amd cpu's are good for average to budget systems becuase on most speed grades you get more performace for your money. P4's are good for high end pc's, but the rd ram costs and the rip off price of the highest speed cpu (AROUND 600 BUCKS!) make them a lesser alternative for people trying to get the most for their money.

p-4 gamer your have fought this battle so many times on every thread u fight for Intel to the last reply aren’t u tired of it. People should just state the facts and the person you telling it to should come to his or her own conclusion. I mean no sense beating them into buy one over the other we need both for better competition for lower prices. All u need to state are the facts. amd more stuff done in a cycle and cheaper. intel faster cycles makes up for the less effectiveness but at a high price
Thing will be ever changing like the intro of the hammer and the p-5 then we can talk about whose better in another of a million treads asking who is better.

What would shock the world, would be if they merged. Wow, all the intel and amd fan would finally put apart all their differences and come together. Same thing would happen if all the console makers became partners and made one console....

What War?
The P4 has come into it's own with the new Northwood’s. Intel learned from AMD the necessity of L2 cache. With the .13 micron core they can now amp up the clock speed so much that they have overcome most of the Willamette's flaws. Memory bandwidth has always been the strength of the P4; the Athlon XP used to be able to overcome that with the their superior FPU, but that is now changing also with the new P4's 533 FSB. Price wise AMD is still the better bargain, but with numerous Taiwanese board makers now supporting the P4, Intel also has become more competitive pricewise.
