CPU/Mobo/Memory >>> Help Me Decide!!
My computer was zapped during a storm about 2 weeks ago, and hasn't been operating the same since (continues to reboot after reformatting hard drive and installing Windows XP Pro).
I've contacted my insurance company and they are gonna pay for me to build a new computer. I want to get something that will kick ****.
I'm looking for an ABIT motherboard (not sure which one yet) to go with either the fastest Intel Processor or Athlon XP Processor. But, I also want the best/fastest memory (Mushkin brand) in my computer.
So, with the above components, could someone give me some ideas on which will give me a kick **** system??
Again, I would like to stick with an Abit mobo/ either an Intel or Athlon CPU/ and the best/fastest memory to go with it (Mushkin brand if possible).
I'm not paying for it....other than my deductable....so fire away!!!
Thanks for helping me decide on my next system.

and if got the$$ I would sugest the the intel p4 2.56ghz with 512 cache mem. with 1066rd ram
Or you can get an 2200+ AMP cpu which is much faster than the intel with 512mb pc2700/3000 ddr ram!!

I use my system for just about anything. Mostly gaming and internet. My homeowners insurance is gonna be covering the loss.
So the Athlon XP 2200+ CPU is faster than the Intel 2.54GHz CPU? How about overclocking.....will both be able to be overclocked??
I've never had a problem with my Abit motherboards. I'm sure there are better, but I'll stick with them until I run out of luck.

In terms of raw performance I think that the fastest Northwood with RDRAM would be king, but would also cost a lot more. I find it hard to believe that your insurance company has written you a blank check on this (minus deductible). If that's true then I suggest you start looking at a professional machine, server with multi processors and dual channel DDR memory (check out Intel server boards). However, if there is a budget that will restrict you to a normal desktop, I would look at an AMD rig and put the savings (i.e. over a P4) into other components like video card and sound card etc. How about an internal high speed modem?

Well Its not faster than the intel 2.54. But it is faster than the 2.0/2.1 GHZ!
IF you a intel 2.26 ghz cpu with 512 cache memory you should be abalr to overclock it to 2.7/2.8 Ghz with out any trouble!
AMD cpu cant be overclocked very much !! They can be overclocked by 50-100Mhz only!
