    Warcraft III

Help! I can't run warcraft 3 on my 1.113 athlon. It's the video card for sure. Can anyone recommend an entry level 3d video card, compatible with directX8? Under 50 bucks? Please, I'm on a budget. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

how do you know it is the video card? Also what AGP x do you have (example 1x, 2x, 4x)?

most cards are compatible with directx8, they just dont take all the features that direct x has to offer, cards that do cost around £135

    1x AGP

When I go to my directX diagnostic tool and test Direct 3D, it performs two tests. The first test is for "hardware accelerated DirectX 7 interfaces" and the second "hardware accelerated DirectX 8 interfaces." These tests show a spinning cube (DirectX 8.1). My computer passes the first test but not the second. I noticed the diagnostic tool listed 3 features: DirectDraw, Direct3D, and AGP texture acceleration. I'm pretty sure newer video card would allow my computer to run warcraft3.

Specs: IWILL kk266 Mainboard, 1.113 Athlon, 128 MB pc133, old *** microstar 4MB AGPx1 video card (shows up on the hardware profile as Cirrus Logic 546x v1.62)

I really should be asking: What's the minimum I can spend for a 3D card?

    OR

Is there a way to get my existing configuration to run warcraft3?

You cant run WC3 with your existing configuration...

Well if you want a real cheap good video card go for Gf2 ti. 64mb.
It will cost about 58$ includin shippin, very nice card.

If have $$$$ Get a better card like the Gf3ti 200 for about 82$..

I think the Gf2 ti will be best for you cause you are on a budget.

    look here for more info.

4mb might not be enough vid mem to handle it. I know that 16 is the min for Neverwinter Nights.

WAIT WAIT WAIT, EVERYBODY PAUSE FOR A SEC.

i think what you need is this:

    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/dir...oads/drx81.asp

Try that first, then we'll talk

Also What is the name and model of your current video card?

you can see that on Device Manager.

I'm pretty sure you just new some new drivers from your Vid manufaturer, and that'll get you going again, without having to spend even $50 bucks, just for a Game.

By The Way, WC3 is not as great, i still like StarCraft + BloodWar better

I can't wait for StarCraft 2 to come out, using the same WC3 engine.

    Now that will rock!.

i guess i only llike Sci-fi themed games

Warcraft III REQUIRES at least an 8mb video card, I recommend a Geforce 3 Ti 200 they are cheap, but not 50 bucks.

    Just look on pricewatch

    most 3d games since
    DAYTONA USA
required at least 8 meg of video memory to run.

his current computer is new enough to have at least that, i hope.

else he better get a brand new system.
