Physical Memory Usage Drops Very Low In Windows XP....Need Help

I currently am running Windows XP Professional Edition. I've noticed that my physical memory drops very low. I have 384Mb of PC-133 SDRAM and it's not uncommon to see it drop below 100Mb while in Windows XP.

Are there any tweaks to keep the memory usage from dropping this low?? Are there any settings that will help??

    Thanks for your help.

Do you have any programs running in the background.

I don't really know why because I have 256mb of pc 133 ram and I had my computer running for a straight month with seti and it never got below 150mb.

You might try reducing your virtual memory. I'd type out how but I'm lazy . Search the Windows XP help and support center for "virtual memory".

If you're not experiencing any lockups/slowdowns, then leave it as it is now, including the virtual memory settings, best way is to let WinXP to take care of its virtual memory.
Have 256MB of PC133 myself and never had any problem.

you might want to check out this site:

    http://www.blackviper.com/

I saw the guy from this site on Tech TV and he was talking about how disabling some unneeded services in XP can free up some resources. He says, "Disabling all of the "unneeded services" frees up 12-70MB of RAM, depending on the system." Read this page:

    http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm

I can't give any advice on that cause I don't have XP but read that page there. One thing he mentioned on the show was to not disable Remote Procedure Call because it "may" make your XP system unbootable.

Now ... disabling serives is NOT something I'd recommend, even if you can free SOME resources by doing it. Especially not for QUITE experienced users.

I'm surprised that guy was on techtv thought he was a devious lot or something. Although its handy and do refer him to others.

I have 512MB of RAM and WinXP uses more than 128MB very (I repeat, very) rarely, mostly when I use graphics editors or play games.
Hit Ctrl+Alt+Del and make a <Print Screen> of a processes and their RAM usage, and post here.
