    compatability mode in xp

i know that xp has a compatability mode for running programmes in earlier windows environments, but is this only for programmes that were already installed before upgrading to xp, or can you actually install something that won't run under xp. i have some programmes that i want to run in xp, but it won't let me install them in the first place. am i missing the obvious here?

compatibility mode is used to correct problems with programs you have installed. i don't think it won't help you install programs. If it won't install, i think you may need to get a win9x or 2k system.

WinXP should allow you to assign a mode to any executable file. Give it a try.
