anyone know if the WD installation disk (Data Lifeguard Tools) will work with XP if i boot into dos using a ME/98 boot disk so i can format the hd to usable status?

I'm not sure about this program but you should be able to create a boot disk and then load dos from it. Then you can format the drive.
Why not put your PC's idle time to good use by downloading the seti@home client HERE and then joining the Sysopt.com Users 2002 Team HERE

You can also use a Win98SE boot floppy to startup and install any Windows OS.

Or use the WinXP CD if your CDROM can use auto boot.

my new hd is set as primary slave... unusable untill i get it formatted. i tried the built-in computer management to get it formatted, but it only allows NFTS...
the hd installation manual cautions only to use in DOS, but says EZ-install wont be needed with NT or 2000 +xp (use Windows setup).......but windows utility wont allow FAT32.
should i just boot from 98/ME floppy and use the installation disk?
