    FlaskMPEG

I use it with the DiVX codec for home movies from old VHS and I love it! Great quality and small size.

One problem though: sometimes it gives ill ops, and last night I restarted it but all the sound codecs are now missing from the audio sound output settings. Only PCM and DivX sound is (but these give large files) and the MP3 slot is there but blank!. VirtualDUB and otherprograms access the MP3 codec ok but FLASK cannot find it.

    ANy ideas what to do?

    Thanks.

That sometimes happens to me. Usually, if I close FlaskMPEG, and reopen it, the MP3 codec will be there again.

    Otheos,

Have a read through this page:
    http://www.digital-digest.com/nickyguides/DVDfromCD.htm

I had problems with Flask and I used the other version of Flask listed here and it worked a treat.

    Give it a go.

    Marcus

Hi otheos how many fps do you get? I get 7.9 with 1 gig tbird using the athlon optimised flask code. A two hr move took about six hrs.

It depends on the bitrate and size:

for 720x576, 96Kb/s mp3 audio, 2000kb/s slow motion DivX with the athlon (x87) optimised at highest with nothing else running I get 8.3-8.6 fps. This is on a Duron @ 1035 (9.5x109). The memory speed and FSB are very important though. I use pc133 Crucial @ 2-2-2.

Usually though I leave it to idle/normal because I use the computer at the same time.
Now this is not advised if the system is crashing everynow and then because you risk loosing all this time encoding.... But I have managed to make my systems stable as rock (in expense of a few CPU Mhz) and I am confident it will not crash!
At idle/normal, browsing the net (opera and X-server and sometimes outlook and icq running) I only get 6.8 - 7.2 fps.

I also found the cause of my problem: the sound card! I took out the SBLive and put in an AWE64 that does not support 48KH!! as soon as I put the SBlive back, the 48KH Mp3 codec showed up.

    no the hybrid is
the 3dNow works best for me though (the hybrid is not as good)

differences are minimal between MMX and the rest, since I use high bitrates (2000+), so anything but MMX is overkill really but....

Is the hybrid version the one done by the guys in amdzone? secondly Otheos I've made a 708 mb divx file that i want to put on a 700mb cdr,Is there anyway to reduce the file size any further? Do I have to start all over again or make a 2 cd divx? Thanks for any help.

before you start encoding you should use a bitrate calculator to see what bitrate you need to get a certain file size.

i got one, it's not very precise (overestimates so you'll end up with smaller files) and I'll put it on my site for download asap.

    I'll let you know

Thanks otheos, I found a bitrate calculator. My other question is how do you deal with wma audio codec? Whenever I select it I get illegal ops with mediaplayer but never with mp3.

I got a bitmap calculator to download from my website's downloads (lower right)
    http://www.otheos.clara.net

FlaskMPEG will ONLY work with PCM and MP3 audio codecs, so you need to use eiter (MP3 96Kb/s is just fine for all uses).

Your link for the bitrate calc is broken. Again if wma isn't supported by flask, why do the options appear for audio codec with certain files, without even an mp3 option? Thanks for clarifying this.

    link fixed, thanks!

now FlaskMPEG lists ALL available codecs as they appear in system.ini. You can actually change the order they appear in Flask by editing system.ini. So eventhough all these codecs appear only PCM and MP3 work.

i got 12.93 fps using the following:
    bilinear
    athon version mmx idct option
    "normal" setting
    tbird 750@1000
(using 4 way interleave added 1.0 fps)
I couldn't detect the diff b/w bicubic and bilinear on my pc screen so I'll use it from now on.
