the quest for a good P2P network

Someone suggested that I try Grokster and I got tatooed by that Benjamin worm.

Now I'm gun shy. I used Bearshare for a while quite happily but it seems to have lost popularity.

Does anyone have a favorite P2P that works and doesn't leave you infected and bitter?

    Grokster Virus

I have used Grokster for a while now, and as with any P2P network, there are a lot of viruses on it. Obviously you are not happy with the obvious safety route "Don't swap files with strangers" - he he:P I also got the Benjamin Virus just last week, and when I installed my network card drivers, it wiped out a lot of windows system files. I blame myself for this for not noticing the obvious clues. Most likely, you got the virus from downloading, over Grokster, the installer to a full version game. It will rename itself to installer for a lot of games, and also a lot of other names. Think about it though, no warez is going to be traded using a "web installer" There's also a lot of viruses in other types of files. The best solution, look for the clues. If the file ends in *.vbs and it's not a VBS game or something - don't get it. If it's a "downloader" don't get it. If it's a full game and only 32KB, it's probably NOT the game. It's not Grokster's fault. Kazaa, Morpheous, and a couple of other systems are all on the same network. If you want speed and variety of searches, Grokster/Kazaa is still my recommendation. But get a good Virus scan. I use retail Norton 2001 (my OEM 2002 that came with my mobo let it get by, retail 2001 found it immediately) I suggest Norton retail of some sort
