external cdrom installation to blank hardrive

need to perform "factory reinstall" of o/s on a blank hardrive which has been fdisk/formatted.

I am using a Bakpak external cdrom (4X) coupled thru parellel port of the notebook computer

I need the commands to transfer the cdrom setup files-from the bakpak installation disc-to-the blank hardrive......

I had created a "win98"startup floppy when istallinjg to another system , using this cdrom--but this startup disc wont work (ie--if i attempt, i get error message saying "no cdrom device found").

Id like to be able to use the external cdrom to install a fresh win(98 on a blank hardrive!

Do you have the manual and/or any diskettes that came with the BakPak?

You will need to have a model-specific DOS driver -- usually a .SYS file -- and the necessary statements in your CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT startup files.

EDIT -- The drivers on a Win98 startup disk only work with internal IDE/ATAPI CD-ROM drives. That's why you're getting the error message.

Go to bakpak's website. They should have the right drivers and instructions. Good Luck

TX--sounds like i have to install a config.sys on the blank hdd?

Wld i also have to install an autoexec.bat (to include mscdex)?

How wld i install autoexec.bat/config.sys to a blnak hdd ? (assuming this is needed to activate the external cdrom).

The two files have to be on the boot diskette, not the hard drive.

Use Windows Explorer to view the list of files on the diskettes. You may find some Readme or Help files.
