Sound question, Recycle Bin...
XP Home OS. I have assigned a sound to Empty Recycle Bin in the Control Panel>Sounds. When I empty the Recycle Bin, the sound isn't heard.....yet when I go to Control Panel>Sounds>Empty Recycle Bin test, the sound is heard. Anyone else ever have this? Thanks.

what sort of machine are you running it on?
I have installed 98SE on some old old old machines and they refused to play sounds in a similar fashion. The reason been (I think) that the processor couldn't delete from the drive and play at the same time.
Personally I have removed all sounds from my PC, they got far to annoying and take lovely power away from the OS.

I really like your idea of "No Sound", I might try that.

messed up that idea then.
Try updating XP, it might be a bug. Personally I would try to solve the problem, one of the niggles that could be something a bit worse....
Try updating your soundcard drivers and put the latest 4in1 drivers on (version 4.38)

Doesn't Windows Update for XP pick up the latest drivers for vid, sound cards as well as your hardware, and let you know of the new drivers? Build date is 4/10/02, burn in 4/15/02 and QA date is 4/16.
I had this happen on our other Windows 98, IE 5.5 SP2 system too. Never bothered to try to fix it, just didn't assign sound to Recycle Bin.
Thanks for the complement on the machine, it rocks! This thing can do stuff I don't even know about.............yet.

jjf1971,
It's a resource problem. A ps2 mouse has it's own. Change the resources it is trying to use, or better yet, stick with a ps2 moussy.
-
ukulele,
can you kindly explain what you meant by better yet keep the ps2 moussy? sorry.....jeff

A ps2 mouse has a priority or reserved channel to the cpu. A serial mouse, usb mouse or infrared mouse is often set up by windows to share resources with another device. This can cause a conflict. Usually it doesn't but in your case I think it did. When you really get down to it all you really need on any mouse is two buttons. A scroll wheel is nice too. Any more frills come at a price. Think about it.
-
ok,
so in short,
why do i NOT get sounds with the scroll mouse?

Perhaps I don't understand the problem correctly. Is the scroll mouse a PS2 mouse?
-
yes,
the ps-2 is my scroll mouse that corrupts the OS sound.
the old mouse, the serial USB works fine. for sounds.
both mice work fine, but they both have opposite effects on
overall sound.

Sorry, I thought it was the other way around. You just said
the old mouse, the serial USB works fine. for sounds.
Is it serial or USB?
-
i am so sorry, you're right ... there is a difference. that's why i come to you guys.. the old mouse that allows sounds to work has a serial port. 9 pin connector/ ?? NOT USB. i wish.
actually, i WISH, that my ps2 mouse would allow windows sounds to work.
