    Need help on a problem

Got a computer that just has an alarm (like a british police siren)
and will not boot. This siren developed about 2 weeks ago and hardware doctor said the system temp was in the red so i opened the case and cleaned everything and it worked good till this past Thursday when the siren came back and the PC locked up. I used the reset button and all the LEDs lighting normally but nothing on the monitor so I just turned the power supply switch off. Then I got home on Friday night and swapped the Video card with one that I had laying around and no help. Then I pulled out the memory modules and reinstalled and it booted OK but after a couple seconds the alarm came back so I fooled around with the memory till I thought I found a bad one and this I thought fixed it because alarm was gone and I left it on all night and it was ok this morning and I used it all day till about an hour ago when the Alarm came back and it locked up and now I have the same condition as on Thursday

    Abit BE-6

PS- Have been pndering the Idea of upgrading this units MB&CPU anyway but still would like to find out this problem just for knowledge.

The problem obviously is heat, either the case is too hot or the cpu heatsink and fan are not cooling the processor...or both.

Agreed, heat is the culprit. Have you cleaned all the dust and fluff out of the heatsink on the cpu? A real good clean will work wonders if the layer of dust is acting as an insulator.

You could leave the case off and if you have a desk fan, blow straight into the case, then play a game for a while and see if the problem disappears.

You might also want to make sure all your fans are actually working, and have not failed on you.
