    virus

i have found that i have been infected with NYB virus in my dosboot file as well as others. i have run McAfee virus scan and it notes no present virus. i still get notification of it when i try to access boot type files. the question i have is what is this going to do to the computer [ruin it?] and how to get rid of it when virus scan does not detect it.

Try using another virus scan program.

    From McAfee's virus info library

Your scanner should have picked up on this , since its in their dat files. Unless of coarse your copy is not updated with the latest dat file.

BTW, the virus comes from an infected floppy, so all your floppies are suspect that were not *write protected* before the infection.

You should be able to clean it with Fdisk /mbr from a clean Win98se bootdisk thats *write protected*. Clear the memory by shutting down and pull the power cord from the wall for awhile. Then boot from the clean bootdisk. Select command prompt. Type the following, and then press Enter: fdisk /mbr
Remove the floppy disk, and then restart the computer. rescan your C:\ drive with a working AV. Try for free

    Hope this helps
