    Upgrading video card-athalon

I want to upgrade my video card, I have a 700 hp 9600 athalon pc
    256 megs ram
    nvidia geforce 256ddr installed now
I want to go up to geforce 4 ti 4600
I am wondering if my pc will handle the demand power of the card.
I have looked for specs on my pc ,but no luck
    I believe the 4600 requires a 2.0 agp slot
    and 350 watts of power
I cant find out what my system has, any help is appreciated

Why don't you write an email to HP?

Only they will know if the board supports AGP 2.0. As far as the PSU goes, it's surely Athlon approved, but I would bet it's 350W or less. That's too close for comfort for me. I would be prepared to buy a >400W Athlon-approved PSU.

For the price/performance, I'd go with a G3Ti200. The G4's are not a big jump in performance.

I definately agree, DECENT GF3's can be OC'd and trust me, NOTHING needs more graphically, than an OC'd GF3Ti200 can supply.

GO for the geforce4 Ti 4200. Its way better than the gf3 ti200 and a lot cheaper than the Ti 4600..

thanks for the reply guys, I am not at all literate when it comes to oc/pc's or tech stuff, I did find out i have an ASUS k7M 1.04 motherboard. I realize that the 4600 is a big jump from my gf/256/ddr but I was wondering about the 350 watts. what does the gf/3/ti 200 require, its not on the box?
I dont want to smoke the board for a better pic, and I am not ready to buy another pc. I read the 96 page spec sheet on the k7m 1.04 ,and no where is mentioned about watts supplied to the AGP slot.

Well, if you want my opinion.... I'd get a Radeon8500 Retail 275/275...... Nothing can touch this card at it's price.....

If you wanna Gforce Ti4600 I personally think that it is way to expensive for what it is. but if you have the dough it's a fantasy we would all love to share......

I personally would go for the Radeon8500 128meg at 300/300 I heard this card is the BOMB!

    outperforms the Radeon 8500 128-MB????

One look through the benchmark charts should tell you where the GeForce4 Ti 4200 is positioned. It is faster than any GeForce3 Ti board, outperforms the Radeon 8500 128-MB the vast majority of the time, and basically fills in the void nicely between the GeForce4 Ti 4600/4400 and everything else.

Ya the Radeon8500LE 128meg!! But it doesn't beat the Radeon64meg Retail 275/275 or the Radeon Retail 8500 128meg
300Core and 600Mhz DDR Ram in other games and benches........
In Quake III and Serous Sam ya it does but in UT and others NOT! Did they mention when 16x Aniso is turned on all cards the Nvidia cards drop half the frames!! Radeon8500 doesn't move a muscle! And Nvidia still can't match the detail ATI has .....
Then show me benches when all eye candy is on ......

They're all within a rabbit-hair of each other. It's all price and driver maturity at this level. ATI needs work on their drivers and needs to address serious hardware-compatibility issues.

ATI needs to simplify their card spread too. As bad as nVidia's model matrix is, it's easy as pie compared to ATI's.

    I must admitt!

The Ti4200 128 meg card for the price is oustanding and over clocked a little it's just neck and neck with the Ti4400 and Ti4600 in mostly everything...and at half the cost I think it's the card to buy!
