HELP! UNKNOWN PASSWORD ON BIOS!
I recently decided to reformate my hard-drive but on entering the bios in order for the D drive to boot first, i found that a password stopped me from entering the bios! I cant remember putting the password on...and have tried every possible password it could be with no sucess. I need to know how to disenable the password in order to get into the BIOs...any ideas?
Love always

Open the case and find the jumper (RTFM) that clears the CMOS. Alternatively take the batery out for a minute.
Make sure you take a note of your BIOS settings prior to reseting it so that you can restore after.

Yes, there are ways. But first try the name of whoever owned the board.Sometimes that is it.
Next either list the bios version here, at least the maker.
If you want reset the cmos jumper and clear it, it will work also.

Just yank the battery out for a couple of minutes. I worked on a freinds pc the other day and they forgot to tell me the bios pass. Pc wont even boot without it. Well I wiped it out. Here it was for the best cause it was the pass to who ever had it before. Point is startup pass are more for public machines than at home use anyhow. You still have the windows pass if you want it.

If a bios password has been set on an award bios, and you can't get around it without discharging CMOS, try this one. When prompted for the password, hold down the left shift key and type AWARD_SW. Hit enter and release the shift key, hey presto, you've not only bypassed the password, you've removed it!

15 Mins without the battery should be sufficient.

No, you don't need to take a battery, just clear the CMOS - it will be more than enough, because all the temporal info, including passwords, are stored there.
Or try such password: "AWARD_SW" (left shift is constantly pressed) - if you have an older AWARD BIOS.

I have found, from offereing advice, that people would rather pull out the battery, because they can be sure of what they are pulling. There are often lots of jumpers and people dont feel confident enough to pull things out.

Wow! Left-Shift/AWARD_SW/Enter/Left-shift Off... I have to remember THAT one. Awesome. BTW, BIOS password set often gives the floppy drive a hard time, i.e. can't boot from, and/or can't format and/or read from floppy in Windows.
