You need to create a win98 boot disk.

go to add/remove programs and it will have an option create boot disk, on a floppy.

Bung floppy into A drive and reboot. Comp will run from floppy.

    type command "fdisk"

delete all drives , option one I think

create new drive option four or three i think, but it will be relatively self explanatory.

now reload win98 from drive d, or cd drive, and you have a clean install.

There are different ways to format a drive, some with software ect, the way I like to do it is make a boot disk by going into Windows folder from Windows Explorer, find Winfile.exe, double clickthat. This will give you a screen very much like Windows Explorer. Or, go to start then run, and type winfile and hit ok. This will bring up Winfile...used to be known as File Manager in Win95 days. From the tool bar, click on disk, then from the drop down menu, click on make system disk. Place a formatted floppy disk in the A: drive and make your system boot disk from there. This will make a bare bones boot disk without a lot of system files ect that you do not need.

Now, go find the Windows folder and click the + plus sign to the left of Windows, or..in the absence of a + plus sign, double click Windows. Under the Windows folder are other folders called sub folders. Find the one called Command. Highlight the folder name, Command. In the right pane are all of the files. You will find Format.com and fdisk.exe place a copy of each of these files into your boot disk.

Shut the machine down, put the floppy in the A: drive and turn the machine on. It will boot to an A: prompt. Here you will type FORMAT C: <enter> <--means hit enter on the keyboard. Now, this action is irreversable, and Format will ask you are you sure you want to do this. Type Y for yes <enter> Now, it will begin to format the C: drive.

You also have fdisk on the boot disk in case you wanted to setup a few partitions, ect. If so, you do this before any format.
