Voltage Manipulation
I've found that i can overclock my AMD Duron 950 by bumping the bus to 133mhz. Problem is that after i have, the pc won't boot. I reset the bios and it all go's again. I'm guessing the voltage needs a boost but i can't change it through the bios so i'm gunna need to do it manually on-chip but i don't know wether bumping it to 1.85v is safe as it already reaches 44 degrees on it's own and the case has extra cooling already although i can add another fan to help. HELP!

You are changing the bus from 100 to 133 all in one shot.
If so are you nuts?
If that is the only way DONT even think about it. A sudden jump in 33mhz in bus is insane.
then you will really be an AMD burner. lol
I also dont think 1.85 is safe for a Duron 950

Well, I don't want to contradict but I feel that 100-133 mhz front side bus isn't that HUGE of a jump. Although it's quite a large one! The ONLY and I MEAN ONLY reason I feel that way is because 133mhz is stock fsb for some processors so as long as you get a post and boot you shouldn't have to worry to much. Though, I must add gibsinep's cautionary statement should NOT be taken lightly. When overclocking the fsb I take 3 mhz steps from 100-133 and then I take 2mhz steps until about 160, after 160 it's one step at a time all the way. Think of your job like puttting together a swing set and skipping the first 11 steps. Would you still let your children play on it??? If you are going to overclock this way you need some really large balls and the will to buy another processor if you fry this one. I would suggest that you read the article one the main sysopt.com page on AMD overclocking. To add this note, if it won't post at 133 I wouldn't add any voltage because a raise in frequency AND voltage will give your temps one hell of an impetus.

well morp. It isnt massive but think about it.
Say this was a 133mhz bus proc than you are taking it ALL the way up to 166mhz bus in ONE shot.
This processor was made to run at 100mhz FSB alsong with the RAM(unless he has pc-133 in their just running at 100)
SO I think he would becrazy to jump that high.

There's definitely something to be said about slowly incrementing your overclocks like gibsinep mentioned. I recently put together a Duron 1GHz (runs at 100fsb default) machine and I decided to go for the gusto. I had unlocked my proc and after I made sure everything was running fine, I immediately pumped up the multiplier and fsb. Went to 11x and set the fsb 133. Big mistake. My pc didn't like the rough treatment and decided to play fickle on me. I couldn't even get the machine to post until I started resetting jumpers on my A7V133 motherboard. I tried a few more times at slightly slower fsb and I had the same results. I went to the slower route and changed fsb settings in small increments. The funny thing is I've finally gotten my machine past the 133 fsb. I'm still testing out the best combination of multiplier and fsb. Currently, I'm at a 135fsb and a 9.5 multiplier for 1282.5 MHz. I think was a bit impatient to begin benchmarking my new system and it caused me some grief. I think part of the fun in overclocking is the discovery of the best combination for overclocking your pc.

I understand EXACTLY what you are saying and I agree in the fullest. But, your hypothetical situation is EXACTLY the opposite reason that I based my opinion upon. I think my "jumping the first 11 steps in a swingset" example is pretty good if I say so myself. ( and no I don't have any kids but I -coughs- probably wouldn't let them play on it if skipping those steps didn't make it swing faster)

lol, I to jumped right in to OC my first processor. With no problems. except their was 1 big difference. Mine did let me go up in 3mhz fsb increments. Plus I had a better proc coming in the mail. But, if he relizes he now would have an even greater chance at frying stuff than fine. Go for it. It's his stuff not mine. lol

Lol, yeah the best way to learn the risks of overclocking is to lighten your wallet by replacing your newly fried processor. Hell, gibsenip is right, if you wanna do it go for it but you might fry your little duron.
