Check your BIOS.
Check Parallel Port modes, there are several modes to choose from. EPP, SPP, mixed, etc. Experiment with different settings.

Boot from the O/S (WinXP Pro) CD/DVD. (Make sure it the same version that you have).
When prompted, press "R" for recovery console.
