Can anyone provide me with a photo of a meter box with bypass switch wiring. I need to see the inside without the electric company meter attached.
I need a photo or drawing showing me how the ground wire is suppose to be connected. The bypass switch lever is different from traditional meter boxes. I think that I have it wired right but I need to verify.
Thanks for the link but I had found that also & it didn't answer any of my questions.
This is the old box. The new boxes have a lever like handle like a slot machine. Its Illinois law. The lever is located on the inside the meter box.
Same idea, (bypass the meter).

BTW, this is not only unsafe, it's illegal.
In Illinois we have to have the box with the bypass switch. I don't know what you mean by illegal?
Legal wiring would be without the two red wires.
I'm not gonna use the red wire. Could you tell me about the red wires? I have the 3 wires coming from service entrance & the 3 from inside the house. My problem is the ground bushing. Do I connect to the ground bushing & stop or connect it from the ground bushing to somewhere else. I will take photo tomorrow.
Do I stop at the ground bushing?
Last question do the service entrance ground wire & the ground wire from inside connect always in the middle of the meter box?
This is the meter box that i have. Milbank U2272-RL-5T9-EL 125A Meter 5th Jaw W/ Bypass
Can you provide me a link to that manual so that I can see it on my laptop?
Are you hooking up a hot tub or Generator transfer switch?

Without seeing the grounded and grounding connectors up close I can not say.Quote:

I'm trying to connect a Milbank U2272-RL-5T9-EL 125A. Meter 5th Jaw with Bypass.Attachment 9883
I need instructions & photos to make sure it's done right.
That I understand. But without a bigger picture. . . .
Bypassing a meter base is illegal.
Per the National Electrical code.
The center bar is the neutral/ground

I'm trying to connect it legally the right way. I don't know what that other stuff means. So the neutral the middle is for the ground wire? I want to connect the proper way with no crime intended at all.
The meter box comes with the handle lever inside. It's Illinois new law. It has the bypass switch inside.
Yes, ground/neutral in the middle. The two outside connections are 120 VAC each, (so you can hook things like a 220/240 VAC Dryer, Stove, etc.).
Take a picture of the box and post it.
Or post it somewhere and link it in
Specifications for Residential Overhead Electric Service Installation
(The isn't for your specific model meter box BUT, the idea is the same).
