It depends on what area you will be working in.
Can you be more specific?
Network wiring and installation/troubleshooting, network administration, network infrastructure, etc.
Some ideas come to mind:
1.) Simple cable tester for continuity.
2.) Simple cable tester for tracing wires or active wires.
3.) Fancy Fluke cable tester.
4.) Laptop for checking IPs and Internet connections.

It's what I use cause it's all in one.
It depends on what type of network tech you are train to.
If you are Not train to do cables then a good laptop with good Network utilities is much more important than cabling gizmos.
Good standard cabling devices are rather expensive and thus most of the time are provided by the IT departments of the business.
